The provincial government will unveil its plan towards a slow resumption of activities during its daily COVID-19 update today.
Premier Dwight Ball says it will balance the needs of business with preventing a resurgence of the virus.
There were no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in the province again yesterday. The total number of cases sits at 258, with 225 people reported recovered.
Premier Ball admits they’re taking a very cautious approach.
He says the last thing they want to do is compromise the progress made as a province, or jeopardize the health of residents.
Plan to be Based on Science, says Fitzgerald
Meanwhile, the chief medical officer of health doesn’t want anybody thinking the phased approach to relaxing measures is a “big experiment.”
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they have taken the good evidence out there and developed policies on a federal-provincial-territorial level.
She says they have all agreed to the basic approach based on sound scientific evidence.
Dr. Fitzgerald claims that may look different in each province.
There is a set of criteria and indicators that Dr. Fitzgerald says government will follow closely to see what is happening as they lift certain measures.
She says that information will be used to determine if they can proceed and lift further measures, if they have to stay at the same level , or if they need to re-impose some measures that we lifted.
