A petition to stop the processing of out-of-province fish has been launched.
Over 4,000 people have signed it as the crab industry is in turmoil with the union and companies disagreeing on price per pound, the start-up date, and the importation of crab.
The petition calls on the premier to prohibit processing companies from bringing fish into this province for processing.
The crab fishery off Newfoundland and Labrador will not open before May 11, but DFO is opening up the lobster fishery starting this weekend.
