The mayor, or AngajukKâk, of Rigolet wants to know why public health measures requiring people entering Canada to self isolate immediately on arrival don’t appear to be enforced.
Charlotte Wolfrey returned home to Rigolet yesterday after undergoing treatment for throat cancer in St. John’s.
As she waited to board the aircraft at St. John’s International Airport, she was surprised to hear a man in front of her admit that he had just returned from India and did not self-isolate in Toronto on arrival into the country.
Wolfrey, whose immune system is compromised, says the man was eventually allowed on the flight, en route to Gander and Deer Lake.
That’s something that caused her great concern. She says the man indicated that he had been approved to travel, but it’s still a worry given her situation.
Both Wolfrey and the traveler in question wore face masks on the flight, a measure required by all passengers.
PAL Airlines says it is working closely with government to ensure they implement protocols in place for air travel.
