You may be vacationing closer to home this year, but the province’s Chief Medical Officer of health says even staycations carry some risk.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says seasonal homes are often located in smaller communities where health care services might be more easily challenged.
She says those considering trips to their summer homes should think about the ramifications of going there and getting sick. She wants people to think about what might happen their travel results in the introduction of COVID-19 to a smaller community.
She advises that people keep social distancing and other pandemic prevention measures top of mind when considering local travel.
Province May See Air Travel
The Canadian Automobile Association says some limited travel opportunities could open up for Canadians as public health restrictions ease into the summer months.
Provincial government officials say staycations will be the norm this summer, but it’s unlikely that more extensive travel will be possible for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
Gary Howard of CAA says if things go well, he anticipates you may see some people taking to the road, and even air travel for local vacations.
He says people like to travel, and international travel will eventually resume as it becomes safer to do so.
