The president of the province’s fisheries union is calling on Ottawa to support fish harvesters affected by the pandemic.
Keith Sullivan is calling the Fish Price Panel’s decision on Friday “unjustified” after setting the minimum price for snow crab at $2.90 a pound.
Sullivan says the union is “shocked and deeply frustrated” by the price decision which was suggested by the Association of Seafood Producers and is far less than the $3.50 submitted by the FFAW.

He says that is leaving many harvesters wondering if they’ll be able to cover expenses and support their families.
Harvesters question whether fishing this year will only drive them deeper into the hole.
Sullivan says once harvesters start fishing, they will no longer be eligible for the CERB unless their income is less than $1000 a month.
There are no other programs available for which they are eligible.
