The man known as the “Governor of Georgetown” is still recovering in hospital after being struck by a vehicle while out collecting recyclables last week.
Ruth Lawrence is a resident of Georgetown and a friend of Wayne Skinner. She says he is a very unique, but amazing man.
They got to know each other quite well as she is on Skinner’s route. She describes him as a sweetheart, a talker, and a charmer.
Skinner was said to be collecting recyclables in the Torbay Road area last Thursday when he was struck by a car. He has been collecting recyclables in the Georgetown and other areas as long as Lawrence can remember.
She says Wayne’s brother, Gerry, called her and provided an update on Wayne’s situation.
Lawrence says Skinner was conscious before going to the hospital, but he is now in a medically-induced coma to help deal with his injuries. However, they believe he will be okay.
Lawrence launched an online fundraiser Wayne’s World of Friends and Supporters to provide assistance in Skinner’s time of need. Find it at this link.
