The provincial government is doubling the volume of vegetable transplants available under its program of the same name to help commercial vegetable producers this season.
The government program provides eligible farmers with high-quality vegetable seedlings to help with variety and promote higher marketable yields.
Crop varieties this year include broccoli, cabbage, onion, kale, cauliflower, turnip, and lettuce.
The number of transplants is being increased from 1.7-million in 2019 to 3-million in 2020. Those transplants have the potential to produce some 3.8 million pounds of vegetables, according to government.
Meanwhile, seeding has begun at the Wooddale Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Development.
