A councillor in Mount Pearl has approached the Department of Municipal Affairs with concerns about the status of CAO Steve Kent, who has been on paid leave for over half a year.
A city-ordered investigation into the situation was intended to conclude quite some time ago, but there have been no significant public updates. Many taxpayers have expressed outrage that he continues to receive a generous salary while on leave.
Councillor Lucy Stoyles wants some answers.
At the end of Tuesday’s council meeting, which was broadcast on YouTube, Councillor Stoyles indicated that she received a disturbing email from somebody on Sunday. The email was reportedly a former worker with the city.
She did not share the context of the email, but stated for full disclosure that she would be approaching Municipal Affairs with the information.
Nobody on council responded to her notice.
