Mother’s Day is highlighting some of the personal connections that have been challenged, and sorely missed due to COVID-19.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health has been the face of public health decisions and the province’s daily COVID-19 update for the last two months.
Each day she calmly provides the latest information on spread of the illness and public health measures to keep people safe, but broke that facade today with a rare show of emotion.
There was a tremble in her voice as she wished moms everywhere a Happy Mother’s Day, offering her thanks and appreciation for what mothers do for their children and families.
She calls it a challenging time, and says there are a lot of mothers on her staff.
Premier Dwight Ball acknowledged the work of all essential workers, and took a moment to thank Dr. Fitzgerald and her team for the personal sacrifices that they have endured.
There were no new cases of COVID-19 reported in the province today. The total number of cases remains at 261 with 244 people recovered.
9,592 tests have been conducted.
