A beloved physician who had a profound impact on the Bonavista North region has passed away.
Dr. Yong-Kee Jeon passed away on Sunday at the age of 91.
Born in Korea, Dr. Jeon came to Newfoundland in 1966.
He, and his wife Suk-Gue, settled in the New-Wes-Valley region after he took a job at what was then the Brookfield Cottage Hospital. He served there for more than a quarter-century.
His commitment and care to the people of the area was so respected and appreciated that the Brookfield Hospital was named the Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre in his honour in 2015.
He is being remembered for devoting his life to the care of others and retired after 45 years, moving to St. John’s.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Suk-Gue, his five children, numerous grandchildren and a very large circle of friends and colleagues.
Donations in his memory are being accepted for the Dr. Y.K. Jeon Kittiwake Health Centre, care of Tracy.Kean@Centralhealth.nl.ca .
