If you’re worried about someone who may be living with abuse, trust your gut, and contact authorities.
That’s the advice of Bev Moore Davis of Miles for Smiles – a non-profit group that works with adult survivors of child abuse.
Moore Davis says family and close friends have a better understanding of the kind of danger loved ones may be in.
She says child abuse can have lasting and irreparable damage, and if you suspect something is wrong you need to act on it.
Valerie Barter is the Executive Director of Violence Prevention Avalon East. She says there are supports out there for people in abusive situations.
She says oftentimes they will disclose information to people they trust, which is a way of asking for help without doing so explicitly.
Numbers to call include Violence Prevention Avalon East 757-0137 and Iris Kirby House 753-1492.
