How schools are going to make virtual learning accessible for everyone is one of the issues the Teachers Association wants addressed for the fall.
Last week, government announced that school buildings would not be reopening for the remainder of this school year.
And given the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, what the next school year will look like is still up in the air.
NLTA President, Dean Ingram, says there are many equity issues that he wants addressed as fall approaches, such as adequate access to needed technology.
Ingram uses a household with two parents working from home, plus two school-aged kids as an example. He doubts many households would have enough devices for everyone to do their work.
And then there’s the issue of internet access.
He says the province needs to look at how they can provide high-speed internet access access province-wide, which is critical to virtual learning.
