The RCMP will not be conducting a search for Isaac Kettle, the fourth crew member of the Sarah Anne who is still missing following Monday night’s tragedy.
The Canadian Coast Guard concluded its intensive search spanning 650 nautical miles off the coast of the Burin Peninsula at 8:45 p.m. The file was then turned over to the RCMP as a missing person investigation.
The RCMP says there is now no possibility of survival, given the amount of time that has passed. In this situation, the RCMP says all efforts to locate Kettle were exerted by the Coast Guard in an “exhaustive” search of a large section of the ocean.
Therefore, the RCMP will not be conducting a search.
However, family and friends of Isaac Kettle are lobbying to have the search resume.
St. Lawrence Mayor Paul Pike says as far as he knows there are some boats in the area searching for Isaac Kettle.
He says he’s read some passionate pleas from Issac’s wife and mother to continue and extend the search. This is a tough time for the family, and they want him home.
Mayor Pike says they have contacted the FFAW to help with lobby efforts to try to get the search extended.
Last night, there was a show of support with a parade through St. Lawrence involving emergency vehicles from the area.
Federal Fisheries Minister Sends Condolences
The Federal Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard is sending her condolences to the loved ones of the four fishermen from St. Lawrence, following Monday’s tragic incident.
Bernadette Jordan says fishing is more than just a job, that it is a way of life. She says it is an unpredictable life, and that’s why the men and women of the fishing industry are so resilient.
She says she is not surprised by the outpouring of support from St. Lawrence during this time.
Jordan says it has been a difficult year for all Canadians. She says we will face these challenges head-on, and come together to support one another during this time.
