One of the country’s most modern groundfish vessels arrived in the province yesterday all the way from Turkey.
Ocean Choice International’s M.V Calvert gets its name from the company’s owners’ hometown on the Southern Shore.
Martin Sullivan and his brother Blaine Sullivan grew up in the fishing community of Calvert.
CEO Martin Sullivan says it uses technologies to reduce the vessel’s carbon footprint and help ensure the most sustainable harvesting practices.
He says there will be 70 new year-round, full-time jobs generating $7-million in annual salaries and over $13-million in the economic spin-off.
The vessel will harvest market-ready yellowtail flounder, redfish, and other groundfish species that will be sold to markets worldwide.
