People living with heart problems are four times more likely to die from COVID-19, while people who have had a stroke are three times more likely. That is according to Anne Guilfoyle, Director of Community Engagement, at the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Guilfoyle says the pandemic has placed a lot of stress on those who are living with heart conditions and who have been impacted by stroke. She says the foundation has lost around $25-million in revenue.
She says COVID-19 is making the conditions that the foundation focuses on even worse and making their research funding even more critical than before.
Our CEO Doug Roth is doing his #VirtualRideForHeart today and thanking supporters, including Stratford mayor @Danmathieson and Jeff Leney of @pazzostratford (at a distance!) for helping us make a difference from a distance! pic.twitter.com/MyqZnEHnQG

The foundation held its first virtual event over the weekend. Guilfoyle says the best part about it being online is that it could be reached from across the country.
She encourages all Canadians to get involved through their website.
