The Lions Club has come forward with a large gesture of support for front line workers as the province prepares to settle into a new routine due to the pandemic.
Club members presented a cheque worth $13,599 to the Health Care Foundation today to help purchase PPE—such as gloves and masks.
The money comes from Lions Club International’s newly-founded emergency relief fund, aiming to help protect front line health care workers.
Carl Chafe is the district governor for the N-4 Lions, which consists of over 1,200 members across 51 clubs in Eastern Newfoundland. He says they were excited to be approved for the grant by the international body of the Lions Club.
Despite newfound challenges, Chafe says it’s about doing whatever they can to support those in need.
He calls it unfortunate that their members are not able to do as much fundraising as they’re used to, but the support from Lions Club International has gone a long way to help their cause.
