Newfoundland and Labrador has no intentions yet of opening up the borders to an “Atlantic Bubble.”
Talks about a larger bubble involving this province and the Maritimes have taken place, but Premier Dwight Ball says they’re going by the advice of public health officials.
He mentions the New Brunswick incident in which a doctor travelled over into Quebec, then spread the pathogen to northern New Brunswick upon his return.
Ball says we would expose some of the most vulnerable people in society if we were to open up the province to people from other provinces.
Meanwhile, airports in Atlantic Canada like the idea of easing travel restrictions in the region.
Tourism in Atlantic Canada accounts for six per cent of total GDP, according to the association which represents airports in the region.
