The provincial government is pledging about $9.6-million to help the forestry sector for several projects, including a spray program to combat the spruce budworm.
Minister Gerry Byrne made the announcement at Stan Dawe Ltd. in Corner Brook today.
The minister says the money will generate more than 100 seasonal and permanent jobs.
The money will be used to plant an additional 2-million seedlings reaching a total 7.5-million for 2020, thin 200 hectares of young forest, and build an additional 20 kilometres of forest access roads.
Minister Byrne also announced the creation of a forestry biomass program, intending to promote the switch from fossil fuels to alternates—such as wood chips and pulpwood.
