Newfoundland Power has received approval to apply a one-time bill credit to customer’s electricity bills in July, 2020.
This comes after the provincial government’s announcement in early May on two financial programs for electricity customers to help them deal with the impacts of COVID-19.
President and CEO Peter Alteen says for many of their customers, it will cover their entire July bill.
The payment will automatically apply to customer accounts on July 1. No application is required.
The amount each customer will receive will depend on their energy usage. A customer who uses their electricity as a primary heat source (around 1,500 kWh) will receive around $145.
The one-time credit is due to a decrease in Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s forecast fuel costs at Holyrood Thermal Generating Facility. It will replace the annual July 1 Rate Stabilization Plan rate adjustment as ordered by the provincial government.
