A convenience store in Witless Bay has been scammed out of over $5,200 through the activation of pre-paid Visa cards.
A scammer called the store on May 27, identifying himself by a name and stating that he was calling from corporate operations. He told the cashier there was a virus within the Atlantic region pre-paid system and provided information to convince the cashier of their knowledge.
The employee followed the directions the scammer provided through a number of phone calls over the days following.
The RCMP investigation continues.
