Old Sam rum is under review by the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Cooperation after staff identified a potential issue with the branding of the liquor.

Brands like Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben’s are being reworked as some people criticize the logos for being offensive and based on racist stereotypes.

In an emailed statement, the crown corporation states, “NLC is taking the time and care to come to an appropriate course of action, including exploring the history of the product and whether changes are needed.”
