About 1,100 litres of an anti-microbial agent was inadvertently released in diluted form from the SeaRose FPSO at White Rose off St.John’s on Thursdsay.
The C-NLOPB says no workers were injured, and no affected wildlife has been observed to date. Monitoring from the SeaRose and another rig continues.
The agent, X-Cide 450, is commonly used by the petroleum industry to prevent the growth of sulphur-reducing bacteria. Husky has reported that it was inadvertently released along with 1.9-million litres of water that was intended for reservoir injection.
The company says all wells are in a safe state, and production operations continue.
