Newfoundland and Labrador has reached a seven-day streak with no known active cases of COVID-19.
Today, the Chief Medical Officer of Health reported that no new cases have been identified, on the eve of a major milestone in easing public safety restrictions. The total number of cases remains at 261.
The province will shift to Alert Level 2 tomorrow, which will allow many businesses and services to reopen under public health guidelines.
That includes gym and fitness facilities, bars and lounges, places of worship, and indoor entertainment facilities—such as bingo halls and cinemas—albeit at reduced capacity.
As Newfoundland and Labrador approaches one month with no new coronavirus cases, Premier Dwight Ball also announced that the province will be opening to an ‘Atlantic Travel Bubble’ as of July 3.
He adds that travel to and from Alberta and Ontario may resume on July 17, if all goes well.
If all goes well, Premier Dwight Ball says travel from other provinces like Ontario and Alberta could resume as early as July 17th.
