A skilled trades training college, operated by a union local that has seen its own share of troubles, has declared bankruptcy.
Notice was issued to creditors last week that the bankruptcy of the IBEW training college in Holyrood occurred on June 11.
MNP has been appointed as the Trustee and the first meeting of creditors will be held on June 30.
The bankruptcy comes after the IBEW’s international office stepped in last year and put union Local 2330 under trusteeship.
Kevin Slaney, a long-time member of IBEW Local 2330, says the situation has been ongoing for some time.
He says the members knew a year and a half ago that maintaining the college was not sustainable, but were assured that the union could make a go of it.
Slaney says members were shocked to find out the college had gone bankrupt through the media and not from the international itself.
He says it shows a degree of “disrespect of members” that he has never seen since joining the union in 1970.
