After more than 33 years of service, Deputy Chief Rick Mackey is retiring from his role.
Deputy Chief Mackey joined the St. John’s Regional Fire Department on February 2nd, 1987. He was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant on March 1, 2008, and promoted to the rank of Fire Captain on April 3, 2010.
He joined management on August 10, 2015, when he was promoted to Platoon Chief, and again further promoted to Deputy Chief of Operations on October 1, 2018.
Over the course of his career, Mackey was also a member of the High Angle Rescue Team and an emergency medical attendant.
The department says his calm nature, his respect for all members and citizens, and his fire ground management has made him one of the most respected members of the fire department.
Deputy Chief Mackey officially retires on July 1, 2020.
