Four drivers lost their vehicles, and over 70 tickets were doled out in the span of a day as officers took a traffic-enforcement initiative to the Trans-Canada Highway.
RCMP officers set up along the highway near Butter Pot Park on Wednesday, June 24, targeting speeding and distracted drivers.
Four drivers were handed licence suspensions and had their vehicles impounded for driving at excessive speeds—at least 50 km/h above the limit.
One driver was clocked by a laser scanner at 172 km/h.
Among the day’s tickets, the RCMP says a number of drivers were penalized for using cellphones while driving, either talking or texting behind the wheel.
