A Conservative leadership candidate believes a federal election could come sooner than many may think.
Four people are seeking the Conservative Leadership – Leslyn Lewis, Erin O’Toole, Derek Sloan and Peter MacKay.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, MacKay believes Canadians could be going to the polls as soon as this fall.
The Conservatives have not held a seat in Newfoundland and Labrador since Peter Penashue won the riding of Labrador in 2011.
McKay, who is from Nova Scotia, says the party has some work to do.
He says the key is fielding strong candidates and maintaining a good relationship with the provincial Progressive Conservatives.
The Conservative Leadership campaign is being carried out by mail-in ballot in August.
