Two groups with the environment at top of mind in Shoal Harbour have combined forces to make the trails and scenery better for the public.
The Shoal Harbour Valley Cooperative and the Friends of Shoal Harbour River Conservation Group want to protect local species, help people appreciate nature and engage in the environment.
Spokesperson Harvey Locke says they have a group of about 15 people but community members are always around to lend a helping hand.
He says they are encouraging others to get involved, not just with their group, but in their own community.
Locke says that having people in and around the river in an active way is good for keeping things civilized down there; it also helps with environmental monitoring and deter poaching.
He says since the groups had an overlap in the same area they figured they would share resources.
