Businesses in Newfoundland and Labrador are calling on Ottawa to defer GST/HST payments for the rest of the calendar year.
Ottawa deferred the first quarterly which was due at the end of March and waived the interest, but that payment plus the one for the second quarter is due June 30.
The executive director of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business in Newfoundland and Labrador, Vaughn Hammond says it’s a significant payment for some of their members.
He says tomorrow will be especially tough for the ones who have gone for about four months with no or reduced revenue.
Hammond says small business, particularly in Newfoundland and Labrador where things have just begun to reopen in the past month or so, could find making the payment very difficult.
