The Opposition MHA for Torngat Mountains is drawing attention to the lack of police enforcement and nursing services on the coast of Labrador.
Lela Evans asks how the Liberal government can talk about reconciliation when she says they “consistently” and “systematically” leave residents of the north coast without the services they desperately need.
She points to Postville, which is without a police presence. She and the Angajukkak (Mayor) received a commitment from the Department of Justice last year that a police presence would be restored in Postville, but that has not occurred.
The community has only one nurse and if she needs to respond to a medical emergency, there is no law enforcement support, which could place her in jeopardy. As a result, they are having trouble recruiting a nurse.
She contends that the problem would be fixed were it not for the fact that Postville is an Indigenous community on the coast of Labrador.
