The calls continue for the provincial government to create a Domestic Violence Task Force in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Courtney Clarke is a member of the Board of Directors with Violence Prevention Avalon East.
The task force would be made up of people who work on the ground with victims of violence including representation from transition houses, the Status of Women, government departments, and the police, according to Clarke.
She says it’s vital to have a real understanding of gender-based violence and find strategies based on that information.
A task force, Clarke says, would track statistics and develop an action plan. She wants to see the province come out the other side of the pandemic in a better place than it was going in when it comes to domestic violence.
