Bells rang out from St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Twillingate yesterday as the historic church marked its 175th anniversary.
The church was constructed in the mid-1800s to replace the former Anglican church and allow for a larger congregation. On July 3, 1845, St. Peter’s was consecrated by Anglican Bishop Edward Feild. It was later designated as a Heritage Structure in April, 1998.
On Sunday, the Anglican Parish of Twillingate marked St. Peter’s 175th anniversary with a special online service, in order to share the celebration with those remaining distant during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The virtual service was led by Reverend Dr. Joanne Mercer, joined by Bishop John Watton and Archbishop Linda Nicholls, and featured the faces and performances of those connected with the parish.
