August 3 is now officially on the books as the replacement holiday for Regatta Day in St. John’s.
The boat races, which draw tens of thousands to the banks of Quidi Vidi, have been canceled this year because of COVID restrictions on mass gatherings. Instead of the first Wednesday in August, St. John’s will take a holiday the first Monday in August.
That is also a civic holiday in many other municipalities.
