A young man has been sentenced to federal time and deemed a long-term offender after being convicted of sexual assault and sexual interference against a minor.
The case was heard in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador last month.
The man, who was 18 years old at the time of the offenses, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
By law, a 13-year-old is too young to consent.
The offender was designated a long-term offender and placed under a Long-Term Supervision Order for ten years.
He was sentenced to two years plus a day after time served, to allow him to attend high-intensity sex offender programming.
