With the weekend here, many eyes will be on downtown St. John’s to see if the new measures put in place will help curb overcrowded establishments.
For the last two weekends, images were shared widely on social media of busy bars and even dancing despite warnings to maintain physical distance.
It was very disappointing to many people who make a living from the tourism industry.
Steve Denty, chair of Hospitality NL, says his main concern is what a setback would do to all the work businesses have done to advance traveling around the province and the Atlantic bubble.
He thinks there is a legitimate interest in making sure this weekend goes better. He says the public saw what happened and thinks they are engaged in doing better as well.
There are protocols in place and enforcement is key. He’s pleased to see the NLC and Service NL step up to enforce the regulations.
