Quin-Sea Fisheries had everything in place to export Newfoundland lobster to Europe and Asia but then came the pandemic.
Now it’s shifting gears and focusing on putting the product on restaurant tables in metro markets across Canada.
Quin-Sea, a division of Royal Greenland, has transformed an old crab plant in New Harbour, Trinity Bay, into a state-of-the-art holding facility for live lobster.
They have created a website where people can order live lobster and have them within 24 hours.
Quin-Sea managing director Simon Jardine says their lobster business now provides more local employment than their shrimp activities.
They’re using FedEx, Purolator, and other companies to get lobster from Newfoundland to markets in Canada. They have already tried it to Vancouver, and the existing transportation network worked well.
