A fishing accident off the Northern Peninsula has claimed the life of a commercial harvester.
The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Todd McLean of Sally’s Cove.
Two fishermen, who were in a 21′ open boat, left Sally’s Cove at dawn Tuesday morning and were expected back by 2:00 in the afternoon. Search and rescue activities began immediately following a mayday broadcast by the Marine Communications and Traffic Centre in Port aux Basques.

At 10:30 this morning, the Canadian Coast Guard lifeboat Cape Norman recovered a man from the water—alive and responsive. A Canadian Forces Cormorant assisted in the recovery and transport to hospital. He is said to be okay.
Shortly afterwards, the second man was located. He was unresponsive.
