The Newfoundland and Labrador Royal Canadian Mounted Police is celebrating its 70th anniversary, and is doing so by encapsulating some of the stories of the force over the last seven decades.
On Friday, the RCMP celebrated the launch of In Search of Adventure: 70 Years of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Newfoundland and Labrador, written by Helen Escott, a former civilian member of the RCMP.
The book is a collection of stories from RCMP veterans—including three of the last surviving Newfoundland Rangers—and helps to tell the history of the force.

Escott says veterans have the “true history of Newfoundland and Labrador.” According to the author, the book takes you behind police lines for stories that have never been told, such as those from officers who were at the Badger Riots when Constable William Moss was struck and later died.
The book even includes stories from management during 9/11, a mountie who was kidnapped and taken to St. Pierre, and officers who have had what she says are “documented encounters” with UFOs.
