The new mobile app to help notify Canadians of potential COVID-19 exposure will be available in Newfoundland and Labrador in about three or four weeks if all goes as planned.
That’s according to Health Minister Dr. John Haggie, who says the province is in discussions with the federal government regarding COVID Alert and the potential use and roll-out of the tool.
Haggie says there was a discussion at the beginning of the pandemic about contact tracing apps, but once NL started to develop their own, it became apparent that the federal government had a particular version that they wanted to use nationwide. He says the federal government explained that the app could be altered to fit needs in different provinces.
The app is rolled out in Ontario first, in late July.
