A resident of St. John’s says they are ready to take the plunge into the political pool by announcing their campaign for the vacant council seat in St. John’s Ward 2.

Ophelia Ravencroft is an academic and community activist.

Ravencroft says they have always been politically minded, and when Hope Jamieson stepped down from the position last week, they decided that “the time is now.”

Ravencroft says an election platform will be released within the next week or two, but they already have an idea about some of the central themes.

They call it an “accessibility for all” platform, looking at things such as snow clearing and public transit, which they say can be a “serious issue.”
