Voting has begun for Kraft Hockeyville, and the Town of Twillingate is asking for help in the final push.
Twillingate and the George Hawkins Arena are up against Pense, Saskatchewan, Saint-Felicien, Quebec, and Tyne Valley, PEI.
The arena is an old airport hangar that was dismantled and moved from Gander to Twillingate back in the 60s to replace the existing outdoor rink.
Twillingate Mayor Grant White says the rink is used by about 25 communities in the area so the $250,000 Kraft Hockeyville grand prize would be a big win for the region.
Meanwhile, former NHL great Gary Roberts tweeted out in support of Twillingate.
He has family roots in the area and Mayor White is good friends with his brother, Greg.
White says people need to go to the Kraft Hockeyville website first to register by email. Voting opens today at 10:30 a.m. local time and closes Saturday, August 15th at 7:30 p.m. with the winner announced that evening. He states that voting is unlimited so vote as many times and as often as you want.
They’re hoping to replace their chiller and Zamboni and fix the arena’s leaky roof as well as upgrade their dressing room and washroom facilities.
Voting is now open and closes tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. with the winner announced that evening.
