Although the province has several months until snowmobiling weather, the summer is a good time to groom trails and fix up old bridges.
A group of volunteers took advantage of some nice weather over the weekend to get together and fix up one of the bridges in George’s Brook that was in need of repairs.
The bridge is part of a 76-kilometre multi-vehicle trail that runs through the old Bonavista railway line, the Forest Access Road in Lethbridge, and along to Clarenville.
Peter Troke, a member of the Discovery Trail Snowmobile Association, says volunteers from the communities got together to help put new decking on the well-used bridge.
He says the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Association donated the lumber and the Town of George’s Brook-Milton donated the nails.
Troke says all of the bridges are a concern and safety is top-of-mind. He says it was on their radar since last year and the collaboration came together in the parties’ best interests.
He believes that collaborations such as this are what make volunteer groups in their communities work.
