Several unions and other groups joined striking Dominion workers on the picket line on Blackmarsh Road in St. John’s yesterday in a show of solidarity.
The Fight for 15 and Fairness Group, which is advocating for a $15 minimum wage in the province, was one of them.
Community organizer Mark Nichols wants to see an immediate increase to 15 dollars as opposed to being phased in over several years.
He says $15 an hour is a living wage, and the longer it takes us to get there the more that number will decrease in value.
Nichols says increasing the minimum wage would put more money into the pockets of workers, which in turn would go right back into the struggling economy.
