A labour union is accusing the Labour Relations Board in Newfoundland and Labrador of what it calls a serious breach of privacy.
The NL Carpenters Union, Local 579 of the Atlantic Canada Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers, says a group of industrial workers in Marystown expressed interest in being unionized. As part of the process, they then have to sign a union card.
The board requires the union to provide them with that information, which Local 579 says must be kept in strict confidence.
In this case, union official Mike Williams says the cards were provided to the employer.
The union has filed a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner.
