The Town of St. Lawrence was hit with flooding Saturday following heaving rain in the area.
Mayor Paul Pike says while there were warnings of thundershowers and heavy rainfall, he was still taken aback by the amount that fell.
He says the Riverhead Brook area in the centre of town seems to be hardest hit, with almost two feet of water overflowing onto the road in front of the fire hall and seniors club.
Pike says the water rose to a level he hasn’t seen in a few years but expected it to subside as the rain eases off and the tide goes out.
Environment Canada says more than 77 millimetres of rain fell in the St. Lawrence area since Friday night, with almost 20 millimetres falling in just one hour Saturday morning.
There have been no reports of damage.
