Tomorrow may be the first day back to school for students in Newfoundland and Labrador, but staff members have been busy for several days preparing for the new normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
To that end, the English School District gave media a sneak peek inside one school to highlight some of the changes that await students as they return to the classroom.
Elizabeth Churchill, the principal of Elizabeth Park Elementary in Paradise, says the staff’s excitement of seeing the kids and getting back to some semblance of normalcy far outweighs the concerns over what may or may not happen in the future.
She, along with the school district’s Tony Stack, toured the school today. The tour highlighted the protocols kids will follow from the bus to the school and back again at the end of the day, all the while keeping their distance to lessen the risks.
Desks have been spaced apart in the classrooms, while floors and walls have been marked with arrows to indicate directions—each emblazoned with the school’s mascot.
Churchill noted the fact that masks have been required in most public spaces as of late should make it easier for kids to adjust to the school environment.
