Wildfires raging on the west coast of North America may seem far away, but traces of the natural disaster could be seen today in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Smoke from the western fires has been carrying across the continent, prompting air quality warnings in some areas of western Canada. Today, it made itself known in the form of a haze over parts of the island.

Environment Canada meteorologist Rodney Barney shared video of sunshine in Gander, offset by smoky haze visible in the skies to the south.
Satellite imagery depicts a thin blanket of smoke rolling over Atlantic Canada before meeting with clouds from Hurricane Paulette south of the island.
Environment Canada’s national wildfire smoke model indicates more smoke will make itself known over Newfoundland and Labrador by Wednesday evening.
