A Port Saunders fishing vessel was gutted by fire this week, but quick action from first responders and bystanders helped limit the damage to other vessels.
Emergency crews were called to the Marine Service Centre at 7:30 on Tuesday evening, to find a fishing vessel fully engulfed in flames.
Members of the local fire department attempted to quell the flames—while local fish harvesters towed the burning boat away from the wharf and other nearby vessels.
Ultimately, the inferno won out and destroyed the vessel—the Sally Kathryn—and caused minor damage to three other vessels and the wharf.
There were no injuries, and the fire is not currently believed suspicious. However, the RCMP says the matter remains under investigation.
