Flu shots from physicians are again going to be covered by MCP.
The government changed the system a few years ago, eliminating coverage, but the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association say people can again get their shot from the family GP at no cost to them.
NLMA President Lynette Powell says increasing our influenza vaccination rate will help alleviate the burden on our health care system.
While a flu shot will not protect one from COVID-19, it will protect from influenza, which causes more than 12,000 hospitalizations and 3,500 deaths in Canada each year says Dr. Powell.
Doctors are asking everyone over the age of six months to get the flu shot. Details on the shot availability will be released by Public Health later this fall.
