Bird enthusiasts are all aflutter over a rare bird sighting this weekend at Cape Race.
A corn crake, or landrail, is a chicken-like bird, native to northern Europe and Asia. Jared Clarke of Bird the Rock took to Twitter on the weekend to confirm the sighting.
He and Bruce McTavish, another avid birder, spotted the rare bird on the weekend.
Clarke says it’s only the third modern recorded sighting of a corn crake in Newfoundland—the last known sighting was back in 2002.
A mega has fallen! Bruce MacTavish & I found a CORN CRAKE at Cape Race, NL today. I flushed it twice (the first time just inches from my feet) and had excellent flight views as made a big arc over the barrens. What a rush!!#BirdTheRock #ExploreNL #BirdsNL #KowaOptics #ABArare
